I don't think we ever got an answer to that! As I recall, at the beginning of Crash 2, Coco sends Crash off to fetch the battery but he's soon sidetracked by Dr. Cortex who appears before him as a hologram and sends him off on a different errand, AKA the actual game. But then Coco starts showing up as a hologram too, so I assume she got her own replacement battery and is sending you these holographic messages from the laptop somehow. Therefore we the players never actually get to see what kind of battery it was! Surely it's one of video games' great unsolved mysteries~
