"Regthar, why did you adopt me? Why did you and Sorah do it." – Esteban suddenly asked while he was still holding his fishing rod sitting on the renzar's legs.
"Because we grew fond of you. Sorah saw in you a lonely boy, in need and far from home. Adoption is something very natural for us. It is something typical of my species"
"And you? What did you see in me?" The boy insisted.
With a deep sigh, the renzar responded.
"I saw myself, struggling to be someone, to grow, with your own effort and without anyone's help. You alone managed to meet your goals. You came to Chakona with your own savings, at the risk of being left with nothing. I I'm like that. I had a father who taught me by example, to fend for myself. And that's why yours situation has more merit. Because you didn't have anyone. On the contrary. It wasn't easy for you, but you fought anyway! " Regthar said shaking the human's hair.
"You are a fighter like me. And that moved me." Esteban closed his eyes and smiled, while he still held his fishing rod
"On the other hand… You gave Sorah and me a lot. We had a void after Tanyio's departure. Your presence in our lives helped us to heal that wound, and move on. Your presence, improved our mood to such an extent." point that Sorah was able to get pregnant again and father that wonderful ball of fur called Hajo heh heh heh "
Esteban was silent. He caressed his father's furry arm that wrapped around him and snuggled against his body. The renzar smiled and pulled him closer, licking the side of his cheek.
Kat'urna's light illuminated the entire clearing, outlining the surrounding hills and trees. The stars were clearly reflected on the calm surface of the lake. Regthar had, however, a restlessness in his heart that had been trying to come out for a long time. And he felt that this moment of intimacy with his son was the right occasion.
"You're going back to Earth, right?"
He blurted out with a thread of anguish in his voice, waiting anxiously for Esteban's response. The boy, however, remained silent, looking at the starry sky of Chakona. Inside of him, he expected that question. But he never imagined answering it so soon.
"I knew it…" Regthar finally said with emotion in his heart, trying not to feel sadness, not to ruin such an intimate moment between father and son, on that quiet shore of Silvergleam.
