Smilodon Populator Reconstruction (Sketch)
LOVE prehistoric animals, wish I did more serious reconstruction artworks...this my first SERIOUS one. Many anatomy books were used, especially for the muscle part. Of course I do not claim to be 100% accurate XD, its just an attempt.
Process:
Make sure the skull is as accurately drawn as possible.
Overlay tracing paper. Use muscle references to reconstruct.
Overlay another tracing paper. Now that the muscle is applied, overlay with flesh. Modern day felids can be used as a guide.
This sketch will end up in scraps once the color version is uploaded.
Thanks for looking
PS: Yes, I'm alive, currently recovering from the most busy semester of illustration ever. I am rediscovering what sleep is now :D

Oh, wow. That's a real mind opener. The skull and the muscle pictures are amazing. The Muscle one one is my favorite, showing how the flesh dips into the midddle-face eye corner(s) , how the ear is formed (amazing how it is done without any, or any much at least, bones), how the muscles from the snout and upper face connect to the mouth in two big straids. I am amazed by how the muscles on the snout have the same whisker spots as the snout fur. Excellent work.
