Recently, the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum featured an exhibit called “Turn it up to 90!” which honored the 90th anniversary of the electric guitar’s Wichita world debut.
Bigsby is best known for their innovative vibrato mechanism. Designed by Paul Bigsby in the 1940s it set the standard for the industry and remains so today. But did you know that from the late 40s through the mid 1960s, Bigsby also manufactured guitars? Here is an example of the Bigsby Spanish Guitar which was introduced in 1948 (interestingly enough, without a vibrato tailpiece).

Such a pretty thing...I love the contrasting woods and the whole "homemade" look of it. Note how crudely the star is inlaid in the (non-functional) tailpiece. I also like the texture of the varnish -- at least I think that's varnish; it doesn't look like lacquer.
Very nice shot, sir! ^__^
