Many salary jobs are becoming gentrified. Two notable exceptions in the US: skilled tradespeople (e.g., master electricians and plumbers) and tech jobs.

The STEM fields have been bad about this for a long time. When I was in high school we were flooded with information about how badly our country needed more people in STEM and how great job opportunities and pay were. Major reason why I pursued geology besides passion for the field. A lot of people trying to get into geology in particular have been complaining for years about how the older generations still in the workforce are just not retiring fast enough to allow the younger folks an opportunity to move up.
Even before STEM I remember when the same problem happened with Law when crime dramas became huge.
