If it had been different
A long sigh. Sure, his former home gave him many thoughts and reminds, but it was all past for him. Though, he wondered why Bothan asked him to return here. Even more, why the arctic vixen took her human form there?
- Do you remember?
- What?
- Our first kiss, here, on that bed.
- No, it was close to the ruined cathedral. corrected Arès
- It was me who kissed you then, but here, for the first time, we both kissed, of our free will.
- True...
He still didn't know why she took him here, in his house ruined by the vain try of the FEU to capture the Haut-Val's complex, the operation Monts Hurlants. She hesitated but finally found the strength to ask :
- What would have you done?
- ... sorry?
- If I was human, what would have you done? ... You would have married me? We would have had children?
He couldn't answered. She slowly began to cry
- We would have gone to the ocean or to go to a camping? You would have given me a family? A true one? ...
You know, I always was all alone... I always wanted someone to take me in his arms and...
- I'm not the one who will give you what you're searching, sorry Bothan.
He began to walk away, so Bothan tried to stop him
- Wait!
- Wait what. I'm returning home.
- This is your home.
- This is no longer my home, this is just a pile of ruins by now.
- This was our home... This is where I belong...
- Bothan. I'm condemned to die in a couple of months. It's as if I don't belong to this life anymore, why would I create memories that will make you to suffer in a year? Forget me, that's the best thing you could do, for you.
He disappeared in the ruins of his native village, ignoring Bothan's sobs
Same background as in The Last Wish, two years earlier.
I guess we all wondered what would have been our life if... If.
*sighs*
