This was a pinup for Genus Male, done pretty quickly to fill a page. Sometimes artists flake, and the pages must be filled! I've done both. :P
Pinups of guys are interesting for me to work on, since I have few instincts to apply to them. Also, guys and girls tend to like different things from male pinups, so I have to consider audience.
I walked down the street at night and looked in the dark windows of a commercial garage to figure out what I might put in the background. I made sure no cops were around.

I spent a lot of time showing various people various pinups, and asking what they liked and why, so there's a big list of rules in my head. They don't overrule what I'm drawing, but they can be applied to buff a pic in progress.
For instance, I've found that in pinups for guys, guys usually like the subject to be looking at them, engaging the viewer. It's more appealing. Women don't find that important in pinups, and often prefer guy pinups especially that aren't looking at the viewer -- a voyueristic piece can be better.
As for sensibilities, hell, I dunno. I draw stuff that appeals to me on some level, even if it's just an exercise to see if I can accomplish a particular effect. In this case, it was that I thought there were enough wispy girly guys in Genus Male and wanted to add something less pretty and more beefy to the mix. Variety. :)
