Another incredible short story by

A Casual Guardian:
The city shook a bit as Lupus made his way around its streets. As one of the area’s guardians, he was always tempted to stop and talk with the little ones he protected. After all, he usually didn’t need to do much on these patrols. The last rampage he’d seen was a decade ago.
Still, a part of why that was the case was because guardians like him were so vigilant. It wouldn’t do to have one bad day and risk all the little cuties currently walking around his paws. He put a good smile on his muzzle, settling for a brief wave when the micros looked his way
After a few miles, he started to notice many cars rushing past him frantically. He was puzzled until he smelled the smoke in the air. A fire was breaking out. He rushed to find the source, hoping he could help before things got truly bad.
To his relief, the fire department had arrived before him, the flames confined to a relatively small area all things considered. What did worry him was how tall the buildings the little ones were trapped in were. There was little chance everyone had gotten out yet.
It wasn’t the best solution he would later reflect, but he figured it be best to let the micros handle the lower floors. Meanwhile, he ripped out the upper levels, quickly letting those trapped inside fall into his palms. He caused a lot of damage to rescue everyone.
But Lupus would not regret acting quickly. As soon as he had gathered everyone he could, he literally handed them to the paramedics. He stopped as he noticed a single fox, clinging to one of his thumbs. He smiled realizing it was trying to hug him before sliding to the ground.
He tried to remain humble as some of the rescue workers thanked him. “All part of why I patrol you guys. Maybe give a good word to my boss if you see him if you want to show your thanks.” And with that he rose up once more, his tail wagging behind him as he returned to work.
