One of many wee watercolour studies in my ongoing quest to learn the medium, and I think my best. Too bad I can't seem to do it again, too bad it's tiny, too bad it is on 22lb copy paper, too bad too bad.

In comparison to 110gsm, how strong is that 22lb paper in terms of resisting watercolours? And did you have to stretch the paper to stop it from crinkling?
Also, I have some 300gsm watercolour paper (in the form of a pad) which says it's 'cold press' and 140lb. Do you think I would need to stretch that before weting and laying down washes?
Your painting looks great by the way! It's interesting how you've used solid lines in the colours, rather than making it smooth or blending so much (like the back half of the beak).

Oh man I am only just starting out and learning this stuff, so I am not someone to ask at all. 22lb paper is super flimsy paper. All it is is just regular, cheap copy/printer paper from Office max/staple. It's horrid for watercolor, I only use it to play around.
Some people always stretch the heavier 140 paper, some people don't. You'd have to ask someone else, maybe someone here will see this and talk to you about it.

Hmm, a while ago when I first bought watercolours, I spoke to Kenket quite a bit and she gave me some great information. If you look through Blotch's scraps at some of their WIP's, there will be lots of questions about watercolours and things in the comments, you should check it out! And I'm sure she would reply to any questions you might want to ask about technique. :3
I've talked to Ket several times about watercolour, she was a dear help. I have already read quite a bit about watercolors and paper and pigments and technique. All my question now are "What happens if I do this...", and that is not something anyone can help me with, I just do it. :> Anything else is very easy to find online or at the library, such as paper stretching, which I don't do right now.
