This is intro the beginning of my entire story "Chakona stories" in the Chakat universe, which I started writing several years ago.
The story begins with Mark Sanders, an unremarkable young man from Earth.
After the death of his parents, Mark Sanders graduated from a higher specialized educational institution in the engineering field and tried to find a job.
After some time seeing that there was no suitable job, the man joined the army, - but only a year later he became disillusioned with the military and returned to civilian life.
He repaired cars, worked in construction, and made private small orders in electronics, - but the fate ordered him differently.
Without a wife and children Mark could not find his place in this life, and one day one of his remote friends offered him an alternative job. Having some trouble with money and being tired of being poor, Mark accepted a job with one of the unnamed Earth's private military companies.
This company was engaged in the protection of trade and transport routes, as well as transport ships of mining companies in deep space. Having no great alternatives in life, Sanders agreed to this doubtful adventure, and after a short training course, he went into deep space.
In the end, the reality turned out to be somewhat different from his expectations...
Spaceship "Axioma" - was an old decommissioned and obsolete military destroyer that the PMC company bought cheaply from the Federation.
The crew called it "Axioma" - because they always had the last decisive word when meeting with pirates, or the "Old cooking pot" - when the old foxtaur who was a ship's engineer, due to a lack of spare parts was never able to repaired the ventilation and air conditioning.
In the end, a lot of things didn't work there...
The company took good care of weapons and special equipment, equipping the ship with modern torpedoes, a laser cannon, an excellent communication system, a radar, as well as a radio jamming system - but at the same time neglected most of the "comfort" systems, such as ventilation, a teleporter, and even one of the maneuvering engines...
Therefore, sometimes reading books on his tablet and watching how water dripped from the ventilation grill, Mark Sanders imagined himself a submariner on a German submarine of the Second World War in the last years of the war, - when there was already a severe shortage of spare parts.
After all, Sanders' whole life on the ship was like a dream...
The man wandered aimlessly through the corridors of the ship, played dice with his colleagues, and sometimes engaged in small repairs of equipment or helped in the repair of the ship...
Training alarms, or even combat alarm one time, - then they fired a single torpedo that in a split second vaporized the pirate ship so far from them, that they didn't even see it through the portholes.
Mark Sanders lived as if in an endless dream. Hours turned into days, days turned into months, months into years...
Mark no longer knew how long he had been there. Maybe a few days, months, or maybe already hundreds of years...
- Or maybe he quietly died in his sleep and now this is his endless private hell?...
But one day, like many times before the alarm signal sounded, and the team began to put on their gear and prepare for battle.
But the events this time changed all his future life...

Please note that my story is in the process of being written, and most of these small fragments that I published are not in chronological order.
(Chronology always was a real pain for me.) So when I finish my plans I will try to put everything in order. If I can...
The story and all characters belong to me

The wonderful drawings and most of character desighn are kindly made for me by
sethtriggs For which I am very grateful for his help in portraying all this - because without his vision and pictures I would never have been able to tell this story.

The people who created Chakat Universe CU - were fans of Startrek, and although these are completely different universes - here is a warp, synthesizers that can make any instrument or food, or teleportation that is similar to teleportation from Startrek.
My stories are written more realistically, and the problem of money are also covered here.
Of course, Earth or Chakona have their own powerful fleet of planetary defense, with super modern expensive ships, proud captains, or heroic heroes flying Enterprise-like ships.
Axioma is an old and decommissioned ship of relatively small size. Now it belongs to an organization of mercenaries who are engaged in the protection of transport routes between planets or large node stations and mining colonies where extraction and primary processing of materials take place.
- These are sparsely populated fragments of space, where piracy flourishes. But because territories are large, regular army rarely shows there. So several private military companies have received a license and as contractors are engaged in guarding the route of trucks with ore and materials.
Axioma is a small ship of the destroyer class. On board, there is a team and three combat units of 12-14 people each, there are also two lightly armed shuttles capable of docking with the ship and landing a boarding assault team.
The financing is quite bad and ship is very worn out, so a lot of systems on it do not work. One of the maneuvering engines defective, teleport also, so from the room in which it is located has long been made a food warehouse. The air conditioner does not work well, and the team doubt that the ship will be able to enter the atmosphere, its shield will withstand and the ship will not break into parts.
The only thing that works - is good communication and radar equipment, a gun turret, and four expensive torpedoes with artificial intelligence made on a special order.
It's just an old ship on which young Mark once served when he needed money.
So yes - only sublight travel now, - although where they are now they have nowhere to hurry anyway.
