She sensed the presence of the woman and her pup before she heard the telltale snapping of twigs and rustling of leaves of their approach. Fiadh stretched out her legs before gracefully rising to her feet, head cocked in the direction of the yet unseen strangers. She was alert and prepared, for she felt a mix of great discomfort, unease and fear emanating from the approaching figures. The foliage along the rudimentary trail through the forest began to move and out cautiously stepped a female of those furless, bipedal creatures. She was clutching a bundle to her chest, her pup swaddled in fabrics. Now that they were so close, Fiadh could better sense the woman’s trepidation. Fiadh exuded a sense of calm and peace, and the woman relaxed slightly.
The woman got down onto her knees and bent forward, still clutching her pup to her chest. Curiously, Fiadh took a step closer and extended her snout towards the woman as she partially removed her offspring from its swaddling, holding the baby out towards Fiadh. The pup looked cold and clammy, but its skin was flush. Tears stained its cheeks and its eyes were bloodshot from crying, though no new tears seemed to be left. The woman muttered something in the tongue that Fiadh recognized as belonging to those creatures, though she did not understand the words. Instinctively, Fiadh closed her eyes and radiated out as much soothing energy into the pup, wanting to ease its pain and help it to sleep. That fear and pain became a dull ache and its eyes closed and its breathing slowed, asleep in nearly an instant.
Fiadh opened her eyes to see the woman looking down at the sleeping pup, tears in her eyes… but the accompanying emotion was that of relief. The woman hugged her child close to her, looking up at Fiadh with tears still freely flowing down her cheeks. She brushed aside her covering and retrieved a length of semi transparent fabric. It glittered slightly in the light as the sun shone through. The woman bowed before Fiadh and carefully placed the fabric on the ground before her, slowly backing away with her pup, still muttering in her unknown language as she retreated back into the brush. Fiadh nosed the fabric she had left behind curiously. It was smooth as silk and so light the gentle breeze threatened to carry it away. She gently clutched it in her jaws, unsure of what to do with it, but unwilling to let the wind take it away.
I wanted to start fleshing out Fiadh’s lore a little, but rather than just dump it in the descriptions, I figured I would do little vignettes like this instead. I hope to continue exploring her backstory through little snap shots like this. Hopefully I don’t get lazy haha.
