Once upon a time in the Old Western AU, Sunflower had a very close friend. They were each made for different purposes and experienced different treatment. Sunflower was more of a status symbol to be shown off, showing how a family could afford a custom made automaton to look after their kids. His friend was merely purchased for hard labour and viewed less than any worker or animal on the property due to being 'just a machine'. Sunflower saw the unfairness of this.
He would often sneak out of the main house at night to check on his friend in the stable. Try help them find rest with a lullaby or two, to get some peaceful sleep before another day of work and abuse under the humans.
They got separated and haven't seen each other for decades, no idea how they each are doing, if the other is even still alive. After losing his friend Sunflower became scared of experiencing such loss again and began keeping other people at a distance, afraid if getting too close to someone.
That did change later down the line, but he has still yet to face up to how bad he is at coping with loss and emotional hurt.
