Neither Shema nor Chaaya fully understand it, but many of Shapier's human immigrants have a particular holiday, once a year, involving sweets, costumes, and practical jokes.

Never one to miss an opportunity for money-making, Shameen convinced Shema to participate so that more people would learn of the Katta's Tail Inn. Chaaya is keeping a pot of pumpkin soup hot outside the Inn, miraculously without it exploding all over her.
