So, I asked Tofu about what would happen if the residual spiritual energy from a recently deceased living being were to manifest into a kitsune, and she told me that not only can it happen, a particularly powerful kitsune can actually force it to occur. She then went on to explain that in such cases, the resulting kitsune even retains the consciousness and memories of their former mortal self, although their personality is slightly reshuffled and their memories feel more like vivid dreams of a past life. The conversation then drifted to what I'd look like and how my personality might change if I were to become a kitsune this way.
