you think wisconsin is bad? i'm in massachusetts! it's salt city here in winter lol.
and yeah, actually this is technically my uncle's olds, but he neglected it and i saved it. i crawled under it in 9 degree weather trying to get the hood unstuck so i could jump it and drive it home to take care of it. i bought a new battery (good thing i was working at a garage at the time since it died at work XD) new brake line in the back, fixed a leak onto the floor, fixed a fuse line that was shorting (fixed the lights and radio!), detailed the inside and trunk (took a few hours -_-), and a bunch of other shit.
but after all that he took it back, kept neglecting it, then took it off the road. so now it's back to square one, rotting in the yard (and wasting my new 100$ battery i bought for it) =(
i'd take it back, but it needs a new tranny. but if i get the extra money, i'm thinking i'll fix it up. because if they don't fix it up by then, which i doubt they will, then i'll fix it myself and take over ownership. since it's in such new condition already, i can't let it rot away from neglect!

We still use salt here, but I wish they used sand like Canada. They don't use salt as much as we do, and cars last longer.
Well, where I live (near Milwaukee) and where you might live have something in common, a large body of water and same weather climate. We might be living on the same latitudes for all I know, so we freeze our tails off the same.
I've driven on 9 degree days before, my car's heater works on the passenger side only for some reason, have to check that out one of these days. My Cavy seen its share of home repairs. I vaccum the inside alot, I like a clean car, don't you? =) We replaced the ABS unit, a couple brake lines, body repair to keep it from rusting again, and a new fuel system. I had to get my fuel pump replaced while I was at MFF.
Then I replaced the OEM headlights with silvania silverstar, and now I can see farther now, an extra 70feet helps alot at night. Replaced some of the exterior lighting with LED, but not turn signals as those wont show in my light housings very well. I use STP at every fill up and ticks like new, but I need new tires and oil before this winter comes any closer. Fixed my trunk release and lock with a 1cm long peice of wire, a twist tie, and a hot glue gun.
It was once my dad's car, and didn't take care of it as much. Now I use it daily, but don't own it, but its looking much better than it did three years ago. But I try not to focus too much on the Cavy, my dad gave me his 67 Skylark since I loved the car so much. Its not legally mine "yet", can't afford assurance on my land boat and needs new tires and a gas tank.
Are cars such money pits? hehe

oh true, didn't think about the water there. so it's prob pretty similar. and well, in my jalopy '87 Celebrity the heat works like the fires of hell, and in my '98 Eldorado (which i use in the winter since it's a beast) has basically no heat, only defrost but even that's not too hot. nothing blows through the vents, but the controls are digital instead of manual so it's even more confusion, though i think it's still the old style of vaccuum control. so between no heat and leather seats in the caddie, i'm freezing my tail off in the winter lol. but at least i know i don't have to really worry about the snow or anything since it's like a snow machine.
and nice, i love home repairs on cars lol. though unfortunately a lot of the repairs needed on my cars are electrical related (not simple though, like ignition switches, bose stereo system [with module hidden somewhere in the car], hvac) which i'm not too great with, and don't have a ton of patience for lol.
and oooh Skylark?! I love those things, what color?
and yes they are, but they are loving money pits XD
it's like a cute (but annoying) puppy, you just can't help but spend all your money on them
