This used to be a stage coach road a long time ago back in the late 1800s. Went through what used to be the UTE Native American territory. Now it's Colorado National forest. Historically it was a toll road people paid to get to cripple creek, a mining town back in the day, this was during the gold rush through Colorado which wasn't what people were expecting. Very little gold was found by the few that were lucky.
I enjoy taking this road for the views and during winter I love a challenge and try to camp in the storm for fun... it's a love hate relationship. I enjoy the trip while playing "Old Town Road" perfect song for this trail in my opinion.
