wanted to see if I can replace my usual single-tone shading with a method using Correction Layers (HSL + Tone Curve) with a mask attached.

Looks decent enough, I do think.

It looks really good. I find that same tone shading with the technique you are using adds so much more depth to the picture when it's finished.
