Phos, Lvl 10 Bard at the College of Draconic Magic Studies, was never considered to be their top researching.
Most of the students at the college were Wizards, Sorcerers, or Warlocks, who have access to much wider pools of magical effects, and thus are better suited to studying the far reaches of the arcane. Bards on the other hand are much more limited, bound to complex casting systems that require music, artistry, and passion to cast. Any college student will tell you that passion alone wont get you far in any career, sometimes knuckling down and forcing yourself to work even when you hate it and aren't inspired is just nessicary.
Phos never believed that though.
And it was this passion for learning and the magical arts that caused him to, one day, while humming to himself between classes, come up with the most powerful and least mana-intensive version of a Regeneration spell anyone had ever seen.
Chuffed, he ran to the headmaster of the college, an ancient immortal blue dragon who's eidetic memory allowed him to memorize and thus store every spell ever made. When the headmaster heard what spell his student had invented, a strange, hungry gleam slid across the dragon's face, and he suggest that he knew the PERFECT way to test it out...
