While poking around public-domain comics I discovered Foxy Fagan Comics and was immediately enchanted. Did you know you wanted a Fox Drawn Like Tom From Tom and Jerry? Me neither. Here's a reproduction of part of the cover of Foxy Fagan #1, which you can see at https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=12941 and see why I liked this immediately.
Original art by Harvey Eisenberg, who it will not shock you to learn was an M-G-M animator for a long while. Also this is a generally strong funny-animal comic, one of the best I've read. There's a rumor that it was scripted by Joe Barbera, but I don't know what that's founded on. The story styling makes it plausible, though. CW: one of the backup features stars 'Little Buck', a depiction of an American Indian kid, and while the story isn't offensive (Buck tries to get photographs of the local wildlife) most every panel has that 1946 White Guy depiction of a Native American kid.
Edited to add: So it turns out issue #1 is truncated; the full comic (according to the contents list) includes a backup feature that's --- based on other issues of the comics --- very racist, like, cartoons-they-won't-show-on-TV-anymore racist. Foxy Fagan's still looking good and many of the other features are also, but be very aware that 'Little Buck' is bad and 'Pancakes And Molasses' is jaw-dropping.
