There are creatures in the dark. Creatures you can never see. Always hiding behind your eyes, never in front. It’s impossible to tell what they look like, we can only guess. Their always silent and always observing. But that’s all they really do. They mean us no harm. They just want to observe the game of life.
But as I said, their creature of the dark, and unfortunately their urge for light is the saddest part of their short lives. For you see, they have observed, they have heard us creatures of light speak of the beauties of the daytime. They’ve heard of the fresh sent of spring, to the warm rich summers, to the fiery colours of autumn, and the sight of the pristine iced mountain lakes which glow in winter. But they have never felt these simply things we take for granted.
Some of these dark creatures can’t fight the urge. They’ve learned to love the light and fear the dark after hearing our hysteric ranting. Some choose to stay awake after their nocturnal hours, just to see what happens 18 seconds before sunrise. Some even linger after sunrise. But are never seen again.

I got the idea for this ages ago when me and a friend done our weekly walk after Midnight. We would wander around abandoned buildings, woodlands, and caves whilst listening to strange and beautiful music on a small set of speakers. I was also influenced by a song by Sigur Rós. The song is called 18 Sekúndur Fyrir Sólarupprás (Icelandic for 18 seconds before sunrise) and is basically 18 seconds of silence.
