This image is so commonplace, even featured on confederate banknotes, that many consider it to be a national coat of arms, which it, obviously, is not. It is just an artistic representation of a rather poetic sentence from the speech given by the first President of the Confederacy of the Free States on the eve of his election. "Supported by strength of arms, arts and enterprise we arise to elect those who will serve us and in turn write the letter to guide all across the still dark plains of the future as an eternal light."
