As much as I love BeastWars Megs appearance between the Rex and Dragon his personality was way too goofy for me. As a little kid I loved him and I still love him but I watched G1 first so my impression of Megs was set by him.
Needless to say I adore this piece! Fantastic work on G1 Megs!^^

Ah thank you! This is an interesting perspective you have as I ONLY grew up with the beast wars version of Megs. I will say this however about BW Megatron, and hopefully it could help you understand him more, is that is 'goofiness' is an act of sorts. You sadly don't get to see this til season2 of the show.
BW Megatron is actually, arguably, one of the most sinister and evil Megatrons out there. Though I admit it's hard to see because Season1 of Beast wars is mainly goofy, it's Season2 sadly where you get to see just how far BW Megatron will go with his plans and even Season3 how he's willing to sacrifice anything and everyone to fulfill HIS version of what G1 Megs wanted.
Ah well, not that you have to give beast wars Megs another try, but i could write essays on how his plan to change time and space to make it that the decepticons won the great war instead of the autobots was ingenious. But problem is? BW as a show, doesn't explain that it takes place 300 to 400 years after G1 ends and that Transwarp technology goes through time and space among other things. Either way, glad you like how I drew G1 Megs! I had a blast with it! Scuse the fandom dump here haha! but i get ya!

Hahaha not a problem and I don't mind at all! Personally I love hearing what other people have to say on the topic! I will say I am aware of how far Beast Megs does go since Beast machines is one of my all time favorites. The fact he did go through with all those plans and changed the timeline. The only thing which disappointed me with that series was the fact he grew to resent his Beast form, seeing it as a sign of weakness and impure. Meanwhile I am sitting there thinking "dude you are a DRAGON one of the most powerful creatures and you are calling it inferior?!" I was so mad at him XD but I knew why he held that view point I just didn't agree with him on it. I cannot tell you how many times I ranted in my own head, coming up with all these crazy scenarios where I could prove to him that keeping the Dragon form would have been beneficial and done him better and he would have been able to go even further with it.
But overall I did appreciate what he became by the end. It's just I cannot get over the season 1 Beast wars version of him. He's a damn good actor I give him credit but at the same time I feel as if that is a level G1 Megs would not have gone to. He had too much pride for that. It was a brilliant plan on BeastWars Megs behalf but it made me cringe so hard. XD But I still do love him. I actually still have the original release t-Rex Megs and the original transmetal 2 and Dragon toys of him. I was rabid about collecting those things. Still am. And I will say the concept of Megs as a beastformer is pure perfection in my mind. It's stuck with me for so long I actually took my all time favorite version of Megs, the one from the Prime Series, and gave him a beastform. And yes, it's a dragon. I created a massive AU around the Prime series and tied it into as many of the other series and comics as possible. It's been a hyperfixation for a long time now and my best friend has been helping me with it. We created some pretty crazy stuff for alot of the other characters and now we've gone and mixed in our own personal Universe into it and this thing has exploded XD. At this current point in time Megs has become an entity known as The Harbinger, a being who works directly with The Origin and one day will take The Origins place. It's a long and complicated story but it's a reflection on how Megs inspired my first ever OC when I was a child, I still have this OC, and how this OC has come through full circle to end up face to face with Megs. It is the Ouroboros, the Cycle, but shall the cycle continue or be broken? We shall see!
Anyways getting back on topic I apologize, once Beast Megs made the move of tearing out half of Rampage's spark [[or was it scorpinok?? It's been so long I can't remember ><]] in order to control him my response was "okay. He's got bearings, this dude means business when he wants to." So I definitely appreciated him for that to say the least.
Overall it just boils down to first impressions. I know it was a kids show so they weren't going to go all in on subtle hints and plot lines that would have showed Megs was playing a demented game. They presented him as this goofy villain with big ideas, frightening ideas but he seemed too silly/incompetent to carry them out. They made him TOO good at acting in the first season. So when the bomb dropped in season 2 and we finally see his true colors it was a "whoa hold up" moment because he suddenly felt like a completely different character. I know I am just nitpicking but I feel if they had written him alittle differently in season one, showed a few cracks in his act that made you give pause and begin to question him, it would have made him perfect.

Ah it's intersting you like beast machines cause i'm not really a fan of it. Megatron hating his beast form was completely OOC from beast wars. Esp. since in beast wars HE did EVERYTHING he could to GET that dragon form. Yet ??? now he hates it? He never hated organics in beast wars, he just didn't like that humans helped the autobots. Plus, since when is rattrap the hacker/inventor? That was blackaracnia's job which they took from her in that show. An optimus who was just a space captain in BW becomes a monk in BM? weird. Rhinox being evil???? ah well
Sadly Beast Machines fired the original writers so everyone in that show is wayyyyyy out of character from their Beast Wars counterparts---only cheetor ended up good in that show. I'm glad you like it! But I could never get into it, esp. w/ the lack of explanations for everything (where did that virus even come from?? also megatron had VERY different motivations in beast wars so his beast machines counterpart is NOTHING like he's supposed to be. I still rec. beast wars though cause BW megatron is the MVP esp. in season2).
And yeah, sadly the season1 version of megs is where he's at his lowest but i'm a sucker for villains who start out one way and end up in another way. So it always impressed me how goofy he seemed in season1 (THOUGH dinobot CONSTANTLY warns everyone in season1 that megatron isn't what he seems) to how season2 has megatron attempting to change the outcome of G1 (the great war) itself!
He has levels buuuut season1 at least has dinobot throughout being like: "No guys...you don't understand. I know he seems goofy but this guy is completely unhinged and will kill you if you let your guard down."
And no worries! First impressions do that to us all! I have trouble with most of the anime of transformers being kinda 'episodic' and goofy, with a few exceptions of course. I'm also not really a fan of g1 but i accept/appreciate it! Still, sorry again for the rambling haha, it's just BW is my favorite. Beast Machines is a good show though (it has a lot of merits), I just think it's a bad sequel. Have a great day!

I think I latched onto Beast Machines because the animation style had gotten better and I was, and still am, a huge sucker for post apocalyptic settings and we got that once back on Cybertron. Plus I loved seeing the Maximals being forced underground into hiding and always on that titular cusp of being discovered and destroyed. It felt like there was more at stake to me. But I do agree the writing for that show was so different thanks to the original writers all being fired. I don't remember why they were fired. Something probably stupid like the writers wanted to do one thing but the executives wanted another for some dumb reason most likely.
But yeah the fact they flipped Megs 180 and had him resenting his beast form? That punched me right in the gut harder than I thought it would. Megs as a Rex was badass but Megs as a dragon? PERFECTION and that is what I loved about the later seasons of Beast Wars. The fact we got to see Megs be so damn epic in the end there. Once he became a dragon the dude showed all his colors and was unstoppable.
I do recall Dinobot warning the Maximals about Megs in season one but I don't remember much being shown in evidence towards his warnings until the very end when he was killed. But my memory sucks, it's been ages since I have seen the show. I know if I go back and watch it now I will most likely pick up on everything I missed when I was younger and saw it.
I do agree with you about how the dynamics of Rattrap and Black Arachnid changed between Beastwars and BeastMachines. That was weird. Honestly Cheetor was my favorite in Beast Machines since they butchered Megatron. Everyone else had their likable moments but not as much as Cheetor in my opinion. Granted I did enjoy the subplot about Silverbolt being brought back and being able to be with Black Arachnid again. I always liked them as a couple.
I WISH we could get a Beast Machines REWRITE. Have it done properly based off what actually happened in Beast Wars. That would be amazing to see a proper sequel.
It's like how I cannot stand the 2015 Robots in Disguise series. It's suppose to be a sequel to the Prime series, suppose to take place 5 years after the events of the movie Beast Hunters. They reference some things from the Prime series. But...the writing...all the villans were 1 dimensional and the hero characters would reset every couple of episodes like they hadn't gone through a bunch of stuff previously and were doing dumb things. The only good part of that series to me personally was seeing StarScream show up and be an absolute Unit for a couple of episodes and getting to see Soundwave return from the Void. But they were written out of the show pretty quickly and everything went back to being subpar. Megatron was not around in this series which makes sense given he flew off into deep space after being freed from Unicrons control in Beast Hunters. But the villain they brought in, Steeljaw? It's like they tried to make him be a spiritual successor to OG Beast Wars Megs and missed the mark. Then they had Megatronus show up...yeah no that bot did not deserve what they put him through in terms of how they wrote him and what happened to him in the show.
I do appreciate the fact they made Bee the main character, stepping up to fill Optimus's place after the end of Beast Hunters but again the writing for him could have been so much better.
Apologies for the rambling rant I will shut up now. ><
