There are tutorials allllll over the net for various fursuit stuff ( i even have videos saved on my computer from youtube )
I totally think you can pull it off, the hardest part will be the mask. If you plan things out carefully im sure it will be fine.
You should check the fursuit community on LJ. They have bunches of info on fursuits but organized for easy finding.
Practice your sewing.

I've made one before, but my main issue is doing the elastic on the balaclava for a moving jaw. Last time I sewed it to the balaclavva but it's not holding up at all well and I don't think glue will be better at all xP And that's how I start off everything, so that's not such a great problem D:
Make the head out of something more sturdy like the plastic sheets. ( you could experiment with pre-made head gear like helmets or something )
too ) I hear the balacava based heads are quite a pain. If you use something sturdier that has a bit more space, you can put springs at the corners of the mouth to get the mouth to close up when you open it. Plus with something like plastic mesh you can make extra room for things like battery operated fans.
