Vorashus is a scary woman. Notice the shadow on Kathy as she blots out the sun. She's also several times larger than Kathy. Kathy hasn't had much experience in being dominant. Her temper helped her beat Jinjur, but when she's not angry, she can appear timid and submissive.
I realize this goes against real hyena behavior--a puppy should be able to dominate a lower-ranking adult--but Kathy's learning the ropes of this community, and Vorashus has been snarling at underlings for a very long time.

We watched The Little Mermaid the other night; my God, Ursula is SCARY! Not only is she incredibly well animated and developed as a character (she really makes the movie), but she's got to be the most formidable villain in all the Disney fairytales. She is smart, sassy, thoroughly evil, and dangerous, AND she takes pleasure in being evil.
Scar is smart, but he's a sneak and, ultimately, a coward. Frollo acts as he does because he believes he is doing the right thing, regardless of how wrong it is. Gaston is an egotistical moron. Mother Gothel is selfish and manipulative. Cruella deVille is a psycho. I could go on; I've watched a LOT of Disney films, and IMHO Ursula is the best villain. Her death scene is also amazingly graphic--while most Disney villains fall to their deaths due to their own hubris, leaving the hero's hands clean of murder, Prince Eric intentionally steers the ship into her so she gets impaled on the broken bowsprit, and explodes in a ghastly magical fireball. Whew! I'm in my fifties, and I found that battle scene to be really scary!

Oh ye of little backbone... Mind you, that's probably the real reason she bowed so low, was to show the strength of her own backbone off.
(<spoiler>Also, I can't quite place the voice I heard her... "insist" on her qualifications for the job. I know it came from somewhere... oh wait, Gozer... That's the voice.</spoiler>)

When I was trying to design the Vorthy Ladies, it occurred to me that--"Who makes the best crones around? Disney!" So I picked a few villainesses (and a couple gender-bent villains) and designed not only the Vorthy Ladies, but the Ambassadors, too (one looks like Cruella De Vil, another was modelled on Clade Frollo.)
Yeah, I think I remember reading that, but maybe not the part about the gender-bent villains! Truly, Disney makes some of the best ones around. Pity that they've kinda gone downhill in quality, but... I guess nothing lasts forever. Can only hope others will someday step in to make some decent ones to pick up the slack.
