Here lie the remains of a 1951 Chevrolet Deluxe that I suspect ain't going nowhere again.
This car has been peacefully decomposing in this spot since I can remember. I first discovered it when I was a pup, and my grandfather told me that he remembered when Mr. John Foote (long since deceased) used to drive it. Mr. Foote always kept it polished and shiny until it finally wore out. According to Grandpa, it was the only car that Mr. Foote ever owned.
Now it rusts (I mean rests) in peace in the woods below Mr. Foote's old home.

Yes, I know. That would have been a nice car in its time.
Still, I always found it a bit touching that the owner laid it to rest on his property when it wore out instead of sending it to the junkyard.
When I was much younger, this car was more intact and not as obscured by the woods around it.

I remember Grandpa telling me that it was the only car that the fellow ever owned, and that he was very proud of it. He bought it new and drove it for 20-some years before it wore out, and by then he was too attached to it to send it away to be crushed and forgotten.
I can understand that man, even though I never met him.
And anyway, he certainly got his money's worth from his investment -- how many people keep the same car for 20 years or more? :)

Very nice! I commend you for keeping your car for that long.
Now that I think about it, you're right about the older cars; when I was a youngster, it was unusual to see a 20 year old car that was still on the road. Now it's not nearly as rare to see one. As much as I like old cars, I do think that modern ones are built to last a lot longer.
