From across the battlefield, my eyes meet my enemy's. He's determined not to let me through, but get through I must. My hand grasps the hilt of my sword. The time is now. The last chance for one of us to step aside. But it won't be me.
I stride forward, and he meets me in kind. We both pick up the pace. We're charging now. I won't move aside, but neither will he.
We finally meet, and with a resounding clang, there is a flash of steel as we dart past each other.
We pass, and remain still. There is silence, save for the gentle breeze through the grass.
Seconds stretch out like minutes.
Behind me, I hear a thud on the ground.
I sheathe my blade and move on.
