I get a kick out of the interplay of these two. Being a prey animal, Clover's obvious affection and concern for Junebug is always bounded by a certain waryness and diffidence. She seems to regard him as a bit of a naif. In turn, Junebug would really like to be closer to his charming neighbor but, being a very sensitive soul, the dragon respects the deer's cautions even though they're a little hurtful. Another sweet little exchange between them marvelously drafted and well paced as a narrative.
