A Perfect Day
The first rays of morning shot softly through the top bedroom window of a large and still sleepy household. As the light slowly and softly illuminated the room, its details began to take shape. Simple forms of furniture adorned the relatively large, lightly colored bedroom; two bedside tables clung close to the sides of a large king-sized four poster bed, while the door of a large walk-in closet lay slightly ajar. Along the edges of one wall sat two identical, tall dressers; the one on the left side had all its drawers shut, while the drawers of the one on the right were left hanging open. Several articles of clothing, mainly shirts and a couple of bras, hung haphazardly on the edges of the drawers. Suddenly, one of the bedside tables began to ring loudly as a clock alarm screamed out its waking protest. Immediately a slender, brown arm floundered out from the sheets, searching desperately to silence the loud ringing. After reaching out to thin air for about a minute it finally reached its target, smacking the clock off of the bedside table and onto the floor, the force of it hitting the ground turning off the alarm. Once the ringing had stopped, the owner of the slender arm slowly rose from under the sheets, cracking her blood-shot eyes open ever so slowly, blinking continually from the sudden change in lighting. Raye mumbled several incoherent words of protest as she looked around the room, her head pounding for some mysterious reason as her red hair flopped messily into her face.
“Damn…what the hell happened last night,” Raye thought to herself as she stretched her arms, her ears twitching slightly as another figure began to stir next to her.
She turned to look down at her lover, and couldn’t help but smile slightly. She always enjoyed seeing the black echidna sleep soundly, even with her head pounding like it was being smacked by a sledgehammer. As she slipped quietly out of bed, her legs suddenly gave way and she crashed to the floor. The sudden noise caused the echidna to snap awake, his head shooting around wildly before leaning over Raye’s side of the bed, seeing her lying on the floor.
“You ok there Raye?” he mumbled a little sleepily as he reached out his bionic arm.
“Y-yeah Lothar…my legs aren’t working properly this morning,” she mumbled back as she took his arm and allowed him to lift her back up onto the bed.
“After what you went through last night I am not surprised,” chuckled Lothar as he stroked Raye’s cheek gently.
Raye gave him a confused look.
“Don’t you remember, you had a little too much to drink at the party and I had to carry you home…literally,” explained Lothar as he put on his dog tags.
“…r-really?” stuttered Raye, a slight blush coming across her cheeks, her tail twitching a little nervously.
“Yep, you nearly stripped naked in front of the guests, I stopped you before you got your top off,” Lothar continued to explain.
The blush on Raye’s face immediately became darker, “…I guess we won’t be doing that for a while,” she laughed a little.
Lothar simply chuckled and shook his head before leaning in and kissing Raye softly on the lips, tasting the drinks she had consumed earlier that day. Raye returned the kiss gently, reaching up and stroking Lothar’s cheek softly for a bit before breaking the kiss and looking deep into Lothar’s multi-colored eyes.
“Well, I have to thank you for stopping me and bringing me home before things got wild,” she said, her blush still present on her cheeks.
At this Lothar laughed, “Oh no love, things got pretty wild once we got home,” he said with a sly smile.
Raye’s blush immediately came back ten-fold.
“…y-you didn’t…” she stammered, her face going cherry red.
“You’re right, I didn’t,” replied Lothar with a wink.
“Oh you’re such a jerk!” yelled Raye as she grabbed one of the pillows next to her and repeatedly whacked Lothar with it.
Lothar couldn’t help but laugh as Raye beat him with the pillow. No matter what the situation was, he always enjoyed pulling Raye’s leg.
“Hehe sorry Raye, I couldn’t resist…so, what do you want to do today?” asked Lothar after Raye had finished pummeling him with the pillow.
Ray simply rolled her eyes in a huff, “Let me wake up a little bit more and I’ll let you know,” she said as she adjusted her black bra with a small blue bow in the center.
Lothar simply chuckled as he got up and grabbed his hat off one of the posts of the four poster bed, sliding his shoes on before heading towards the bedroom door.
“Suite yourself, I’ll be downstairs,” he said as he walked out of the bedroom.
As Raye watched him walk out, she couldn’t help but let out a little sigh as she slumped back onto the bed. Despite his constant teasing as well as his inconsistencies, she truly adored Lothar for who he was. Every moment she was with him she felt complete; she couldn’t think of any one that she’d rather spend her life with. She smiled at this fact, staring up at the light that seemed to dance across the ceiling. After staring at the lights for a while, she finally got up to test her legs again. This time they held her up as she slowly made her way across to her dresser, picking up the loose articles of clothing and placing them in their correct drawers. Once that was done, she picked out a decent top and pants and slid them on, the cool feel of the clothes sending a little shiver down her spine.
“Hey Lothar, let’s make a plan for today,” called Raye as she slipped on some shoes and headed down stairs.
She was met with only silence, indicating that he hadn’t heard her. She rolled her eyes and headed for the living room, where she found Lothar sitting on the couch.
“Did you hear me?” she asked in an annoyed tone.
“What, about a plan for today, yeah I heard you…what did you have in mind?” he replied, patting the cushion next to him.
Raye sat down next to him, laying herself on him gently, smiling a little as his arm wrapped itself around her, squeezing her gently.
“I don’t know…how about we just wing it?” she suggested.
Lothar gave her a confused look, “……just wing it?” he asked.
“Yeah, you know, just start out with a walk and just go from there,” Raye explained.
Lothar thought about the plan for a moment, before giving her a satisfied nod. Ray smiled, leaning forward and giving him a small kiss on the cheek. At this Lothar couldn’t help but give a smile, a thing that even Raye rarely saw from him.
“…right…just start with a walk…” he sighed as he got up off the couch.
He stretched a little before offering his hand to Raye, who took it without hesitation and followed him towards the door. Outside, the sun was shining brightly overhead; the sky completely clear of any clouds. Raye stepped out and took a deep breath of the fresh air, stretching once again, basking in the warm sunlight.
“Gods it’s such a beautiful day to be out, isn’t it Lothar?” said Raye with a small giggle.
Lothar simply gave a small grunt; his way of agreeing with a statement.
Raye rolled her eyes and took his arm in hers.
“Well at least you’re out of the house and getting some fresh air,” she laughed as they began their walk.
Lothar just rolled his eyes as they continued on their walk, yet deep down, he truly enjoyed every moment he spent with Raye. Each moment with her was one that he truly treasured, even though his expressions never showed it. After about a half hour of walking, the couple happened upon a small shopping center that held nearly everything from clothes shops, to a movie theater, and even a small pub that the two went to on occasion. As soon as her eyes hit the clothing shops, she immediately tugged at Lothar’s arm.
“Oh, Lothar, I need to go in there. I just remembered that I’m out of pants,” exclaimed Raye as she tugged a somewhat reluctant Lothar into the nearest clothing shop.
“Ugh, fine,” groaned Lothar as he let her drag him into the shop.
“At least try to seem interested…if you’d like I can give you a little show when we head over to go underwear shopping,” said Raye with a slight coo to her voice.
This brought about an immediate blush to Lothar’s face as the headed over to the woman’s department. After selecting several kinds of pants she liked and fit her, Raye made her way down the aisle of clothing and slipped into an open dressing room. Lothar sat patiently outside the door to the dressing room, waiting for her to come out and show him each pair of pants. A couple of moments later, she came out wearing a simple pair of denim jeans, the cloth hugging snuggly around her curves.
“Hey Lothar, do these pants make my ass look big?” she asked, giving a little spin in front of the mirror.
“No your fat makes your ass look big,” replied Lothar, keeping as straight of a face as he could.
Raye turned around and glared at him, a slight blush of embarrassment appearing on her cheeks.
“…Fine…no panty show for you,” she giggled as she walked back into the dressing room to try on another pair of pants, smiling as she heard Lothar chuckle ever so slightly.
After trying on all the pants, and keeping true to her word, Raye led Lothar over to the lingerie section to try out some bra and panty combo’s that appealed to each other’s interests. By the time it was all said and done, Raye walked out of the shop with a few pairs of new pants and dozens of new sets of underwear. It was now mid-day and the couple decided that it was time to have a bit more fun. Immediately they headed over to the bowling alley hoping to kill some time by throwing a couple of games. However, upon entering the bowling alley, Lothar noticed a little sign that read “Karaoke Night Tonight, starting at 4pm and ending at midnight”. As soon as he read that, he immediately thought up a way to really throw Raye for a fun little loop. After paying for the games and finding the correct bowling balls, the couple began their games. A few frames into their second game, Lothar excused himself to the bathroom. Unknown to Raye, he was actually sneaking over to the DJ to sign her up for karaoke. Once her name was on the list of participants and the song was picked out, he made his way back to their lane.
“What happened to you? Did you fall in or something?” Raye laughed as she sat down, obviously finishing up her frame.
“What, can’t a guy go to the bathroom?” he protested as he got up to bowl his frame.
Raye simply laughed and watched him as he literally chucked his ball down the lane, hearing the pins crash loudly. Soon, they reached the final frame. Lothar, having already finished his final frame, sat and watched as Raye got up to bowl. Just as she was about to throw the ball, the intercom came to life as the DJ announced that karaoke was starting.
“Ladies and gentlemen, karaoke will now begin, our first participant will be Raye,” said the DJ’s voice over the intercom.
Raye’s heart literally jumped up into her throat, her ball slipping from her hands and landing with a loud thud on the wooden lane.
“…w-w-what?...” she stuttered.
Lothar smirked and walked up to her, picking up her ball and leading her over to the DJ, placing her ball back on the rack as he passed it. When he gently pushed her towards the microphone, she turned away from it, looking up at him.
“Lothar you know I can’t sing very well!” she exclaimed under her breath, the slightest hint of panic in her voice, her ears pinned back.
“You’ll do fine Raye, besides I think you’ll like the song I chose for you to sing,” said Lothar as he turned her around and led her to the microphone.
As he stepped back, Raye noticed that a small crowd was beginning to form around where the microphone stood. Immediately she became nervous, a small blush of embarrassment flushing upon her cheeks. Suddenly the first notes of the song began to play, and Raye noticed that song was familiar; it was the love song that Lothar used on their first date. She smiled, her blush staying on her face as she closed her eyes and began to sing as best as she could.
When I see your smile,
The tears run down my face,
I can’t replace.
And now that I’m strong I have figured out,
How this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul,
And I know.
I’ll find, deep inside me,
I can be the one.
I will never let you fall,
I’ll stand up with you forever,
I’ll be there for you through it all,
Even if saving you sends me to heaven.
…Its ok…its ok…its ok
Though her voice waivered ever so slightly, her singing soon brought about a much larger crowd. Even Lothar, who never really cared for listening to karaoke, no matter who sang it, was quite impressed with how Raye was holding up.
Cause you’re my…you’re my…you’re my
My true love, my whole world, please don’t throw that away
Cause I’m here,
For you,
Please don’t walk away,
Please tell me you’ll stay!~
It was here that Raye’s voice suddenly rose in a grand crescendo, reaching a beautifully rich tone that matched the growth in music, making some of the crowd cheer her on. The cheering also caused Lothar to smile a little at how proud he was of Raye.
Use me as you will,
Pull my strings for a thrill,
And I know I’ll be ok,
Though my skies are turning grey.
I will never let you fall,
I’ll stand up with you forever,
I’ll be there for you through it all,
Even if saving you sends me to heaven.
I will never let you fall,
I’ll stand up with you forever,
I’ll be there for you through it all,
Even if saving you sends me to heaven.
Raye’s voice cut off perfectly with the music, and immediately the crowd clapped and cheered for her loudly. The loud cheers caused Raye to open her eyes and see just how many people stood before her. This caused her blush to darken over her cheeks as she hurried off the stage and ran to Lothar, hugging him tightly both in relief and embarrassment. Lothar held her close to him and led her out of the crowd, grabbing their shopping bags and exiting the bowling alley. Once out of the bowling alley, Raye stayed close to Lothar, the blush still apparent on her face.
“You know…I never knew you had such a voice hun,” said Lothar as they walked towards home.
“…y-you think so?” whimpered Raye, still trying to get over the initial shock of what had just happened.
“Absolutely, the way you sang that song was absolutely fantastic,” Lothar insisted, turning her so she would look into his eyes.
She stared up at him for a few moments, a small smile appearing on her face. This smile immediately disappeared as she quickly slapped Lothar across the face.
“That’s for making have to sing in front of all those people!” she yelled.
Before Lothar could even retort, Raye quickly leaned up and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips.
“And that…was for making this day one of the more amazing days of my life,” she whispered as she pulled him closer to her.
Lothar made to say something, but decided that it didn’t need to be said as he wrapped his arms around her and squeezed her gently. Raye’s blush lightened to a rosy pink as she leaned up slowly and pressed her lips against Lothar’s, keeping the kiss as soft as she could. Lothar did likewise, enjoying the feel of her lips as the couple tightened their embrace. After a while, the two reluctantly broke the kiss.
“…and what was that for?” asked Lothar with a little smirk.
Raye matched his smirk with one of her own.
“Because you’re just too damn irresistible,” she purred softly, her tail squeezing Lothar’s thigh gently.
Lothar simply let out a chuckle as he began walking towards their home, wrapping an arm tightly around Raye’s waist. Their pace quickened slightly from when they exited the bowling alley, for both of them knew what would happen later in the evening. High above them, a full moon illuminated the entire city below it, casting its soft, intimate glow across the world below.
