I just did this today. Although I was going to colour it in a range of colours, I was having problems getting it done and as I wanted to get this put up on my roleplay web board as soon as possible, so I decided to do it in greyscale....or brownscale. Grey turned out a bit dull and the brown lends a certain ye-olde style to it.
Anyway, this is Muythenia, a city featuring in roleplay web board. Muythenia is the home city of the Muythenians, a race of anthropomorphic felines.
Please note, I didn't draw any muythenians or any other creature in this image. I forgot to put them when I was drawing it and I just thought it would take to long when I was....colouring it.

The brown is more soft and pleasant to look at than grey scale. Strangely enough, I only selected two colours in the creation of the brown scale version - a dark brown which I justed used to change the page colour with, and white which depending on the layer type (add mode or subtract mode) comes out either light or dark, which is great for lighting and shading. That's all I did in the image, just added lighting and shading onto a flat colour layered over the lines I drew earlier.
