Agreed! I'm not particularly opposed to regular inanimate, provided the person is still alive inside and can be turned back.
*However*... animate/sentient inanimate TFs are definitely a lot more fun. I really enjoy the idea of one's body becoming something object-like but remaining fully movable, enhancing how much the changes can be experienced.
