So I am at my front door putting on my shoes when I noticed the glass was broken near the lock.
Great someone tried to break in….
So I called the police and the officer arrived and she said… “That’s a bullet hole!”
“You had a shooting here earlier!”
“What a relief I thought someone was trying to break in!”
You can see the bullet lying there! The officer said that is “Awesome!”

Mayyyyybe also they don't sell guns to virtually anybody, maybe it's not constitutional to have a weapon but strictly regulated by law, so not just anybody can get one? Which is exactly my point.

If you have no criminal records you will get the license to BUY a gun. And there is NO license to OWN a gun there.
Also there're around 800'000 current and former Army guns in private hands in Switzerland.
The Swiss have no drugs/gang problem. That's why they have a murder rate lower than almost ALL other European countries. Only Norway is a tiny bit better, they got a lot of privately owned guns to tho. So there's that.

That still doesn't slow down the criminals, 99.8% of them never legally buy them, they steal them or obtain stolen weapons from the criminal market. Even in gun-free countries, you can still obtain a weapon if you have the connections.
Look at France as a prime example, the mass shooters using fully automatic weapons, You can't just 'Walmart' those weapons. They were smuggled in.

Good comparison. You are talking about fully automatics weapons... These are for terrorist attacks, and terrorist action is a whole special thing in itself: criminal organizations with money, supply contacts from outside Europe, logistics and a target in mind. It is completely different from US mass shootings in the US that are largely made by individuals with no organization around them, yet they have been able to get their hands on such weapons too. You just can not compare those at all, it does not make any sense.
oh yes I can, You cannot easily obtain fully automatic weapons in the US. Not in the slightest. The Fully automatic/selective fire weapons are whats called a 'Class Three device' Or a NFA weapon and can be legally purchased providing it was made before 1987. In order to obtain a class 3 weapon, You literally must submit FIVE Fingerprint cards and Photos (Done via a police department) and submit them to the BATFE for investigation. This takes anywhere from 9 months to 2 years of intensive background checks. You are locally investigated, state level investigated, FBI investigated, Federal Investigated and National Security investigated. And not only they check your info and social contacts, but medical and social media as well. and ANYBODY along the way, should they say No, it stops there. Not allowed to proceed, nor allowed to apply again at a later time. And very few pass the investigations fully.
Those that pass, literally are whats called Level 2 Pentagon clearance, Level 1 being the US President and chiefs of staff. You are literally that vetted for authority. And higher clearance than even Governors of states and many high security jobs. Of the roughly 250,000 plus class 3 holders within the US currently, and since 1934 when the law went into effect, theres been exactly THREE violators of the law...and two of those were police officers. So proof Class 3 owners are trustworthy and not likely to do stupid things.
I know what I am talking about, I'm a vetted Class three person.
Plus when you purchase a firearm in the US, you fill out a form 1073 and you are checked by the BATFE, if buying a handgun, you are also checked on a state level as well. Theres also a massive "Don't Lie for the Other Guy" campaign, also known as 'Strawman purchase' meaning don't purchase a weapon for somebody who cannot own one. Those that do, face a ten year prison term in Federal prison.
The problem in the US is the person behind the weapon, Flat out some people are head cases, obtain the weapon via theft, falsely using others to buy them, or using a parents owned weapon thats not secured. It was rather rare for a mass shooting til the Columbine school shooting. And the rise of social media. Sick fucks who easily get pissed off, socially awkward or shunned, feel victimized on some level (IE: Beat up in school constantly or pushed too hard by the 'pretty people' and ostracized.) and watch how the media pays attention to those that squeezed the trigger and thus...gain a form of immortality. Everybody knows the names Harris and Klebold for the Columbine massacre , but without googling...name ONE victim. You can't! Nobody remembers the victims except the friends and families. But the mass shooter always is. This is the common thread. These sickos who are in it for a body count, knowing that they likely would be killed by police while committing their heinous crime, but still wanting that immortality of name remembrance. Personally, if they want to die in the process , they should just off themselves first before taking out innocent lives prior. Would save alot of stress and heartache.
There needs to be more open reviews of mental health, Red Flags on social media (How many times has a shooter openly called/ hinted at wanting to commit violence on social media and NOBODY said a thing to authorities prior to the event...too many times.)
At the same time there needs to be an understanding, especially on social media, that just because somebody owns firearm, doesn't make them a mass shooter in waiting.
And sadly too many kids, growing up without a steady family base, are lured by the criminal element, and some by religious/ political extremism. And without some sort of base, wind up as criminals. Sadly the world is filled with those types.

This is extremely interesting and I thank you greatly for those information - of course I guessed automatic weapons weren't exactly in open-market in the US, but the fact is that, at least from an outsider point of view, it looks relatively easier to get one there than here, and as far as I saw they are domestic ones, not imported from some usually eastern country like here - although we do also produce our own models.
Yet the main point still stands, in Europe automatic weapons are used primarily if not solely during terrorist attacks, which is totally different from a single individual who decides to go bereserk for the reasons I exposed. And when we compare the US and France as you took that example, the difference reported to the population is of four-to-one since mid two thousand. I can't believe at all the primary explanation is that there are four times more disturbed people in the US than in France, but when comparing the legislation towards firearms, I do see some correlation (and even more when enlarging the comparison with other countries)...

OK, I was almost stabbed a few years ago by a guy wielding a fish/pumpkin carving knife. With those vaunted Erupoean laws and ideals? I would probably have died or seriously injured with life lasting injuries. How would your laws have stopped that? A gun most certainly stopped it and didn't require me to actually shoot it. My crime for nearly being stabbed? Buying bread in the wrong area while being white.
I mean we have over 40k laws in this nation and the mass majority are against having criminals get firearms, punish criminals for getting them and making criminals out of innocent people. Most laws being redundant, ineffective, unenforced, or unenforceable and illegal. Yes we do have fundamental rights in this nation around self defense and tool of self defense. Your mocking tone and deflections did not help your arguments nor give me a respect for you to earn a proper response.

Now this is something important we can build something on.
I will paraphrase one famous quote from a well-known sci-fi franchise, but with a slight change: "the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many".
This is the problem of our individualist societies: we are quick to denounce things we never apply to ourselves. For the comfort or safety of a few, we allow several times more people to struggle or die.
Don't get me wrong, I do am glad you have been able to get out of this, whatever the means. But for your spared life, dozens of others have been taken out. Have you ever heard about the "trolley problem"? With a couple adaptations, that is exactly what happened here.
Also please accept my apologies if you believed I had a mocking tone, that really wasn't my intention at all. If I had, you would certainly have had the right to slap me because no nation, mine comprised, can pretend mocking something while having the same panel of incoherent or stupid laws for themselves. Criticizing with arguments, yes, mocking, certainly not. And it does allow to make comparisons and then try to apply what's best from experience.
My tone was rather, I would say, "disillusioned".

"the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many." This is how we get slavery and human rights violations too. The correct quote from the wonderful world of reality and even multiple scifi shows is such as Star Trek The measure of a man being a good example. "The needs of the many do not outweigh the needs of the few." Oh yes the trolley fallacy. I love that one. Kind of over simplification of issues.
So gun control in the US is largely built on racism so you have that. Cool, we have that part of your ideal going by making it harder for minorities to even defend themselves. I do love you trying to guilt trip, a little physiological thing anti gun people like to play. There is no logic behind it other than making the other person the bad guy in the discussion. Gaslighting me if you will. Almost like saying "I'm not racist but" "I am happy for you but"
Actually firearm self defense is used more often than criminal use. Its just not as fun to tell the good guy with a gun story as it is a bad guy with a gun. Doesn't get the clicks and the fun sound bites. In fact many law enforcement agencies going up to the FBI says private firearm ownership is important for the individual. Because they can't be everywhere. You do kind of have to ignore the leadership because they often parrot what they are told to parrot by higher ups or even by their unions. Sherries offices are more outspoken than big city stations known for racist policies and laws like New york and LA. Who knew stop and frisk was illegal and violated rights that aren't gun related and was specifically made to target minorities?
So the European solution is to ban all guns, make self defense near impossible. So I can live out in the country. So the nearest police officer can be 90 minutes away at 90 MPH excluding the 30 minute or more call and them figuring out if its worth responding to, who the nearest is to the caller etc. I mean I remember holding a woman down for an hour while she had seizures. I was on the phone for over an hour while holding her down. She was assaulted with a rock and that was in the city. I would hate to see the response in the country side. Most Europeans can't comprehend the vast size of the US and the vast array of cultures in the US. in fact there is no other country in the world like the US so there will be some form of conflict and that too eludes most Europeans too. I worked in Photography for 10 years and Europeans are always awestruck by the vast size of the US and how many cultures they can visit and not to mention biomes. So when They speak of America does based on what Europe does is kind of hilarious, same way of hilarious as an American going to Europe. We are as different culturally as Japan is to China or Korea despite being from the same people and sharing a modified version of the same language.
The ATF is on record saying we have to brainwash people to think guns are bad. Also the ATF is known for wonderful events like Ruby Ridge

Yeah, Philly. Filthydelphia, The City Of Brotherly Shove. Streets so dirty you leave tracks when you enter a building, and a city hall that smells like a bus station urinal. One bullet in twelve years is still one bullet too many. Move over the river to Jersey, to Haddonfield. You'd be a heck of a lot safer there.
I'm surprised you didn't have safety glass, or at least a close approximate of it. Thankful you're not hurt
Glad you're okay, Alex. Fate willing you've supplies to get that changed out asap incase it wasn't just an errant coincidence and someone is attempting something they shouldn't be

OH! I thought it was double paned. (They can catch the smaller calibers) Judging from the size of the slug, it was from a single handed fire arm (Not like these guys could afford or would use a Taurus)
Forgive me on that Alex. You've struck me as the not-military but, definitely thinks like them type. And figured you had modified the glass your self making your own variant of ballistics glass. Plexiglass with the plastic laminate
I'm thankful you're okay.

You lucky bastard, You get a stray bullet popped off by some hoodrat spraying and praying nearby. I get dumbasses not only shooting, but carjacking and robbing folks openly and getting away, or arrested and being released hours later to repeat the process of their ways.
Closest I had to your situation was some asshole shooting the bird feeder outside my front window and the bullet being stopped by the seed. Plus a dent in my car from a bullet ricochet when I drove past a sketchy area over the summer.
And people wonder why I am armed constantly, cause the Mayor cut back the police budget and allows revolving door criminal arrests to happen. One 14 year old carjacker was arrested THREE times in one day, and released each time.
Rarely a night goes by where I am NOT hearing gunfire from up the road and the Section Eight Housing area. Gangbangers don't care, don't follow the laws and are subhuman.

Damned happy you/yours weren't hurt from this, physically!
O.o!
Reminds me of the ONE night, 'New Years Eve' I suffered while living in Richmond, 'Commiefornia.' It was a two story condo, and I was laid-flat from the flu. Close to midnight, the sound of small arms fire became so severe I literally rolled off the rack, hitting the floor, having an immediate flashback of the first Gulf War. Luckily, my then-roommate heard my ailing carcass hit said floor, and came up to help me DOWN to the first floor, where we both laid flat (along with our assorted critters), until the gunfire finally died down (somewhere south of 0200HRS, I just don't remember exactly).
Next day, neighbors all over discovered 'Holy windows' in their residences, and many vehicles had damage to their glass/paint jobs from fallen rounds.
Richmond, 'Commiefornia.'
Things have only gotten worse, since.

Blue city. Catch and release murderers. I'm glad you're okay, but Dodge, get the heck out of.
From the shape and size I'd say it looks like a 9mm round nose, probably the cheapest stuff there is (I've made enough of them). Hovard is probaly right; it may have some from Philthy anyway. Now that John Whatthefetterman is Senator, he'll clean up the crime (if he remembers where) he lives.
I've lived in this Eastern Connecticut toadsuck for 44 years and while I've had fireworks set off on my windshield twice (ruins the glass and the wiper) I think the neighbors know better than to challenge me with a firearm.
