Poppy, being extra super-duper excited to participate in the cheerleading state finals, appeared as a streak of green, purple, and red blur of light as she went supersonic towards her destination.
SONIC BOOM!
“WHOA!” a flying, four-tailed fox panicked after being slammed by the shockwave left after Poppy had abruptly zipped past him.

GRASP
“I got you, pal!” a teal-colored hedgehog said as she took to the air and caught the out-of-control fox.
PIT-PAT
The hedgehog held on to the scared, quadra-tailed, vermillion-furred fox kit until the very masculine ”SONIC BOOM!” ceased to sound throughout the sky.
“Is it gone?” the bespectacled fox cub asked while daring to open his green eyes.
“It is,” the white-gloved hedgehog replied while snuggling her scared colleague even closer to her chest. “Now let’s continue on our journey to get The Star Sapphires before Mr. Machinehead, or any of his goons, get to them first!”
The fox kit nodded.
“Time to ka-pow?” he asked as a smile formed across his face.
The frilly-haired hedgehog bent into a runner’s stance and narrowed her eyes.
“You got it, Kilo!” she replied while dashing forward and quickly accelerating to a speed that was near, but not quite, what the super-eager hummingbird had done to make the air cry out like an air force captain who had a pension for getting into street fights. “KA-POW!”

“This is so exciting!” cheered Re as she and Avril reached the girl’s locker room. “So what do I do now? Is this where I’m supposed to get myself dressed up for the competition? Will I have to sing, because I love to sing. However it is hard to think of singing without my best birdie buddies here to sing along with me…”
Avril allowed Re to say all that she needed to say before providing the Bebopsburg hummingbird a response.
“You’re going to do just fine, Re,” she assured while patting Re on the head. “You worked hard to get here and I know your friends will be watching to see how you are doing on that big screen you all have at The Birdie Bowl.”
Re looked towards the sky as she remembered how the performances would be livestreamed so every birdie in Bebopsburg could see her representing the musical island she called home with her best friends, Do and Mi.
SONIC BOOM!
“Made it!” cried Poppy as she suddenly appeared beside Avril and Re.

FLAP-SNATCH
The wind that Poppy had dragged with her rushed hard and fast at Avril and Re. Fortunately, Avril was quick to catch the startled, pink hummingbird before she was blown away.

OO-WA! OO-WA
Avril secured Re in one of her black-colored wings before using the other to perform a thousand wing slaps against Poppy’s sonic boom. This resulted in the seemingly unstoppable blast of oncoming wind to come to a complete stop before admitting its utter defeat at the wing of Avril Usal.
“Oh, wow!” flapped Poppy with delight. “You must be the very birdie I was told to meet up with upon landing here for the competition!”
Avril sat Re down before striking a stylish pose that was complimented by a colorful backdrop of colorful, nectar-bearing. Tubular flowers.
“If your name is Poppy of Sunnybrook Park,” she sang while executing a ballet twirl. “Then I, Avril Usal, welcome you to our distinguished university for the annual showcase of the best of the best in the fine art of cheerleading.”
Re watched as her fellow performer seemed to split into multiple copies of herself as she surged with excitement.
BOOM!
“Yikes!” the pink hummingbird fearfully tweeted as Poppy’s entire body became engulfed in flames, leapt into the air, and wildly flew in circles with the flaming image of a legendary phoenix burning around and beyond her.
“Ma-ma-ma-Miss Avril?” a soft voice spoke upon coming upon where Avril and Re were standing. “I-I I do not think I am good enough to be in this special event that means so much to you.”
Avril took hold of Re’s wing while looking towards the timid griffon who awkwardly toddled towards them.
“Don’t be silly, Phoebe,” she assured the gold finch and lion hybrid girl who wore a large, bright pink bow on top of her head. “Everyone is going to be over the moon and seeing stars after your performance today.”

“Ooh!” chirped Poppy upon landing beside her fellow performers. “You must be Re of Bebopsburg and Phoebe Vogelsong!”
Re squeezed her winged hand even tighter into Avril’s.
“Yeah… umm… I’m Re,” she replied nervously.
“Wa-wa-wow!” awed Phoebe as she appeared to rock herself while fidgeting with her talons. “Ma-ma Miss Avril has say-say said a lot about you. Ya-ya you are Poppy, wri-wri right?”
“Sure am!” the green-colored, red-haired hummingbird replied proudly. “It is nice to meet my pen pal in person to share in our most favorite of favorite activities together in front of a stadium filled with people from all over the place!”
Re gulped while directing her purple-bow topped head towards the ground.
“I can’t do this, Mss Usal,” she whined. “There’s no way I, a really tiny, pink hummingbird, could ever be able to put on a show as awesome and cool as what Poppy and Phoebe can. Especially without having my best birdie buddies here to help support me in my performance despite how much I like to perform and do tricks and-”
“-Ha-ha hello, Re,” greeted Phoebe as she wobbled about in front of the rainbow-legged hummingbird. “I It is okay to be a ba-ba bit scared. I-I am a little sca-sca scared about performing, too,.”
Poppy caught on to what the diaper-wearing griffon was trying to do for their little friend from across the sea.
“Everything is going to be okay, Re,” she said in as calm a voice as she could. “No matter what happens, you can count on Phoebe and I to be super supportive and helpful so that we all come out winners!”
Phoebe bashfully extended a claw towards Re in a gesture of friendship.
“Fra friends?” she asked softly.
Re, starting to feel less intimidated by the larger hummingbird and griffon, released her hold on Avril’s wing and took hold of Phoebe’s claw.
“Sounds like a plan,” she replied as a smile returned to her face.
“Well,” stated Avril as she opened the door for the girl’s locker room. “Why don’t you three start getting ready for the big show while I go find the other kids who are going to be presenting with us today?”
The trio all nodded in agreement before heading in to ready themselves for the big show that was soon to take place.

Finished readin'! :3 Good work Yosh, it's neat these birdies all got to interact! And woops I didn't realize Phoebe was the birdy you made up a while ago as Yosh's friend! It's neat you're making more use of her - I read my old comment on her thing and said I'd be curious to see her interact with others, seems like she's very shy but it's nice and she stuck out. :3 Poppy's a cool character, it's fun seeing Avril all wacky but encouraging, and Re's a good use of your current birdy show interests! (Oh yeah, I watched my first episode of Adventures in Duckport the other day! But I'll save that for later.) Hopefully these birdies all have fun performing together! :3
Oh, they will certainly be having a lot of fun together. It's going to be a fun 'Slice of Life' that helps show how the Toon Loons can interact with places and faces beyond those of Sunnybrook Park. :)

The one joke I put in, which was based on an eager Poppy, was parodying 'Sonic: The Hedgehog'. This was easy to toss in for a giggle. However, as is less likely known, is the reference I attempted to make about Street Fighter 2. Guile is known for his 'SONIC BOOM!' attack and, if you may recall the original SNES port for The World Warrior and/or Turbo, The announcer gave Guile his voice with a mach-like cry of "SONIC BOOM!" when you pulled off the move.
Breaking the sound barrier / traveling at supersonic speed leaves behind an explosive sound that comes after the object traveling at such speed moves by and its real time noise catches up to the standard speed of sound. So, in my attempt to give Poppy some extra umph, I used Guile's "SONIC BOOM!" to trail after a supersonic Poppy. (The even more inside joke is how Avril uses E. Honda's 'Thousand Hand Slap' to defeat the rush of incoming air left behind after Poppy lands.).
*Blushes* I knew this joke was VERY iffy, but I'm still happy having had a chance to slip it in. I'm sure M. Bison would find it "Delicious.". (Quote from a video clip from the animated Street Fighter series you shared many, many years ago that, given my goofy memory, I remembered as I wrote this reply.). ;)
