Another Ghost Of Inktober post
This is from the early ages of the solar system ... back around '78. i was starting to put together a comic book portfolio. As i got more pages underway i set aside some of the earlier pages as being not as good, and while i thought the top panels were cool and the bottom panel interesting, the two middle panels sort of luke-warm. i hadn't thought of them fitting into an over-all page composition, and the three bottom panels are each in a slightly different style ... and it originally had plain ol' white boarders ... i put the black boarders and thin white boarders on it yesterday and it looks a good deal better.
i don't know that i'll ever finish it as i have hundreds of other pictures waiting in line.
crow-quill pens etc on bristol approx 17 x 12 in

The over all influences were Barry Windsor-Smith, Kaluta, Beadsley, and Dean.
What was in my mind at the time was coming up with a syle for the Red Sonja series influenced by all of those - i would have been interested in developing a style from those - but here i was just putting my toe in the water.
The upper panels are Windsor-Smith influenced (left and right) and Kaluta.
The middle panels are both intended to look like flat-perspective wood-block printings from the late middle ages.
The bottom panel started as a Roger Dean sort of thing but then warped into Moebius style over lapping planes and objects to create depth.
i should have done at least a few days of exploring the possible styles, but i didn't learn about all stuff until i was in the Animation biz - every design, proportions, drawing, etc have to be precise ! - i think i just made this page bit by bit while working on other pages.
