I drew this a year ago and didn't finish it. I was like a lot of people: I hadn't played any 2D Metroid games except Zero Mission, but Dread made me really want to, so I marathoned the series and had a great time with it. Cute creatures are in short supply in Metroid, but the Etecoons absolutely are!

So in Super Metroid, if you haven't played it, there is a place in Brinstar where Samus is likely to fall through some pitfall blocks into a lower room. To get back to where she was, she goes to a nearby vertical shaft where the Etecoons live. They sing the New Item jingle and start to jump at the walls and off of them for more height. This is the only way for Samus to leave this area--and she has been able to wall jump since the game began, but this is how the game teaches her that she can. Just do what the little alien monkeys do!

The inputs and timing for wall jumping aren't easy, though. So here's a better idea. Canonically, Super Metroid comes after the Prime series, so here Samus used the Light Beam from Echoes to make the Etecoons... light. Up she goes to the top of the shaft, no wall jumping required.
