Dvergr this is, the original nordic dwarves.

It's unclear what they are, as I find them described as more earthly elves, as early man, as maggots in the corpse of Ymir, the giant whose body the world was made out of in the story, and besides that as just their own thing entirely.

The Voluspa just enjoys listing their many funny names.
