Kinda late but there are sort of "megaservers", many realms are connected to each other and there's a list of which and to which so you could "just" move to a group of realms that are connected whenever with new account or character transfer and paw together. Unless they changed it with new expansion bcs they worked on some cross realm stuff there but not sure how far they went with it besides group content, perhaps simply inviting to party would connect you both now.
