The sun was rising over the TreeDome, the streaks of light blazing brilliantly on the leaves of tallest branches. The shafts of light that did makes it through the lush verdant coverage lit patches on the forest floor. Birds sang their tunes as insects hummed in the background all harmonized with the gentle wind that played with the leaves and danced around and the trunks of the ancient trees. The sounds of the deep forest, a familiar song. The Kitkian who dozed atop a high branch of one of these ancient trees was stretched out, the gems of his ears and tail floating lazily, and wings settled relaxed out to the side , and his head angled towards the ocean that lay far to the West. Basking on a large branch drenched in sunlight was a usual pastime when not hunting or using his magic for the small band in which he belonged.
This band was one that moved from the TreeDome to the edges of the sea. Trading with other peaceful bands they passed for furs, small pottery, and herbs. His band also included his best friend named Kota. Kota was small and thin for a normal Kitkain. His pelt not of the forest but of the hue of the clear ice and white snows of E’Teyo his face framed with hair as black of obsidian and tail tips to match. He is out going but can get flustered easily. His skills and sense when it came to trading goods with others had served the band well in the many seasons since he had joined. He became fast friends with the oddball of the group Cassiel.
“Cass! Are you sleeping again?!” A voice rang out from below the tall tree reaching his ears and causing them to flick in response. Cassiel or Cass as many others called him had a similar coat to Kota in shades of charcoal grey over most of his body and icy blue along his front and the undersides of his twin tails. Hair the same dark obsidian as Kota’s draped down over his sleepy shoulders and flowed over the smooth bark of the limb. His coat mottled in the light eyes the color or embers, warm and inviting to all who gazed upon them, fluttered open hearing his friend’s call. Eyes looked blearily straining against the sun turning his head to glance down towards the source of the sound. Far below was a small blue spot that stuck out against the many shades of green against the forest when the voice called out again.
“Cass we’re supposed to go hunting today! Wake up!”
“I heard you.” Cassiel groaned back towards the ground. “I’m coming!” Calling back arching his back stretching his recharged muscles and extending his small wings he began to slowly traverse the branches to the floor landing daintily in front of Kota. “I didn’t know we had hunting duties today. Were we going to hunt for fish at the river?” He asked between a yawn.
