When i was going through some folders looking for Inktober pics for this year i came across this little scrap - approx 5 x 7 in - ( probably from around '97 - '05 (?) - a time when i was thinking of leaving the animation biz for the comics biz ). Her face was meant to be a cross between manga and Betty&Veronica - and her arms were a bit too long ( too many decades of drawing cartoons ) - but the thing that gave me a WTF moment was how precise the cross-hatching is.
i think i used a straight edge for some of it, but then switched over to ship's-curves for her legs etc (similar to French-curve templates, but much larger gradual curves - templates made for drafting ship designs).
i had forgotten about that technique so when seeing this i was confused "How the F(luffy Kittens) did i do that ???!!!"

i did this so many years ago that i don't remember if it was tedious or or relatively easy - i'm sure it must have been slower. And yeah, some the inkings i was doing back then were practice to see if i could switch from the anim biz to the comics biz, so i was practing variants on the currant Mavel/Image/etc styles - and Lee doing great stuff !
