I'd like to do a series of sketches to slowely re-design the look of Sprout. I figured it's long overdue, and a lot of people I've talked to agree. ;)
My original character vision was supposed to be cute, and lacked detail for the interest of animation (which never happened on this site, hah!) For the redesign, I'm aiming for a more cooler, serious look for an adolescent dragon. He also wields the element of Earth, but I'll express that in future sketches.
This was actually really fun to do! Any critique or thoughts is more than welcome. Got any cool ideas? Shout them out! It will greatly help!
Art style inspired from the awesome
Narse Probably one of the coolest character concept styles out there.
F5 for updated badgyness! ;)

Actually, this isn't the style I typically paint in. You might recognize it from
Narse
Thanks though! :)

XD And OMG! I just realized he finally has an eye colour!
Also I tend to disagree that cute and simple doesn't make it not suitable for animation. it all depends on your target audience and wanted style. Both realistic/serious and cartoony/simple have their places, but both are suitable. None overtakes the other.

I'm not sold on the hair. It looks like it hasn't grown with the rest of him and comes across a bit weedy and straggling; something bolder and sleeker would suit him better, I reckon. Also his shoulders seem quite thin, making his neck look a little beefcake.
Also the ears look completely different, rather than a development of his old ones. Also- nah, that's it. It definitely looks like an older version of the same character, just a few changes would give it a more well-rounded look.
