My first try at painting an angled feather (where the painting is straight but the feather is tilted). I felt the angle of the bird would compliment an angled feather nicely.
This feather is a gift for Alan, who with Mary-Beth founded the Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education Center. Alan has also taught me a lot about working with the birds, and his sense of humor has always kept things light, especially when I was nervous starting out. He encouraged me when I doubted myself, and I'm glad to know such an awesome person.
Athena is the peregrine falcon at the center, who Alan has worked with and trained very well. She's got a great personality, and always looks to Alan, even when on someone else's glove.
Acrylic on turkey feather, about 17 inches long
