The size between male and female in the picture is not accurate at all, only with the genders being either the same size or males slightly larger.
Nox diablosaurus, aka the Jimru from south east Asian legend.
Main Habitat and range: Tropical to warmer regions of temperate zones, preferring very warm habitats, keeping to forests, jungles, savannahs and deserts, along with visiting coastal regions. It's range is in almost all of Africa, Southern Europe, warmer regions of the Middle East and into India, Southeast Asia and the Eastern edges go into some larger islands in Southeast Asia.
Size: where it is not the apex of its ecosystem, it stays within the size range of 26-33 feet long and 8-10 feet tall, with males usually being larger than females. Where it does dominate as the apex, it's size does go up to 57 feet long and 21 feet tall. The average weight is around 1.5-2 tons with the apex sizes getting to 10.3 tons.
Life span: Average lifespan is 65-80 years. For apex variants, it can get as old at around 100 years.
Speed: Top sprint speed is close to 35-40 mph, though it can maintain a jogging speed speed of 25 mph for several miles whenever it chases prey to tire it out.
Diet: It's fully carnivorous, though due to its heavy prey preference being toward mammal prey, especially ungulates with the largest usually being camels and buffalo, along with other smaller dinosaurs as well. Though this does put humans on the menu, making the species a well known maneater.
Social/Parenting: As adults, they lead either solitary, but will seek to live in monogamous pairs for life after they reach maturity. Mated pairs will always hunt and cooperate together, being able to hunt larger prey than what a lone creature can take down. When not raising chicks, they will hunt smaller prey solo, but within eye sight and ear shot of each other. When nesting, their nesting function is very similar to birds of prey, with the parents taking turns tending the eggs and hatchlings while the other goes hunting. When the younglings, numbering between 2-4, reach 3 years of age, the parents will send them on their way to live on their own. The young ones will hunt in their family unit for 6 years until they know how to hunt fully on their own and males will begin finding their own territory at around 12 years of age. The males with the most game will be the one to most likely attract a life time mate quicker. A pair will only mate every 5 years.
It is built for night time hunting mostly, having amazing eye sight and hearing that is aided by it's large head crests. There are 2 things that makes this species very lethal night time predators. One is it's raven level intelligence, learning about prey habits, behaviors and how to take advantage of their behaviors during night time. This intelligence is can be observed early on in their life with siblings during the hatchling phase being playful, along with a great amount of curiosity of the surrounding environment. Another adaptation it has is in its crests: skin that has a controllable glow. These crests can glow so brightly that it can be used as an extreme flash bomb on prey, blinding them temporarily and become easy prey for the Jirmu. When a pair is hunting large prey during night time, like an elephant or a large hadrosaur, they will take turns at blinding and distracting while their mate takes bites at their prey to cause bloodloss to weaken it before going in for the kill. When hunting smaller prey, it uses it's clawed hands and long arms to grapple them and then it's jaws do the killing blow.
Conflicts with humans: Many humans that live within the territory of a Jirmu or Jirmu pair are either forced out or always on the defense to make sure they dont fall prey to these beasts, going armed with their best weapons and wearing eye protection in case. They are also known to hunt livestock along with humans.
Sounds: Short distance- deep chirping/growling, along with a deep shrieking roar meant for threat displays. Long range- deep closed mouth bellowing that sound like a deep pitched, slowed down raven call or a hard to hear booming call that can be heard for miles by their mate or others of their kind.
