What a wonderful dish pizza is and there are so many delightful variations. These yummies come from the kitchens of
Hozz and sure look like they could jump off the tray onto the plate in no time.
A delicious favorite! Quick, easy snacky pizza bagels! Since the amount of ingredients varies according to how many you're going to make, I'll just list what I used, as well as some other good ideas for toppings:
-Pepperoni
-Crumbled bacon
-Italian sausage
-Sliced ham chunks
-Ground beef
-Pineapple chunks/tidbits
-Various grated cheese
-Green bell pepper - diced
-White onion - diced
-Olives - pitted, sliced
-Mushrooms - sliced
-Pizza sauce (I make my own, and I'll include a recipe with this entry)
-Bagels
-Italian bread (Another good pallet to work with!)
-Olive oil (Brushed on to make them crunchy and flavorful)
You'll also need:
-A baking/cookie sheet
-A basting brush
-A 3qt. sauce pot (If you're going to make your own sauce)
-A oven (Duh.)
-Oven mitts and trivets.
Personally I used bagels, onions, peppers, pepperoni, cheese, and my own sauce. These are very adaptable to taste, and are inexpensive to make, so feel free to try some different things! Here is how I made mine:
1- preheat oven to 400F/205C.
2- Separate the bagel halves on the cookie sheet, and brush the cut sides with the olive oil. You want a decent coating, but don't soak them.
3-Place the bagels in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until lightly toasted on top.
4-Remove from oven, and top with sauce, cheese, veggies, meat, etc.
5-Place topped bagels back into oven for roughly 10 minutes, or until cheese is thoroughly melted. If you prefer, leave them a few extra minutes until the cheese starts to brown!
6- Remove from oven and enjoy!
Pretty easy, huh? The only real inventive part of this is what toppings to use and the sauce! Speaking of, here is that recipe! The only hard part is the spices. I cook by intuition, so I can't even begin to give accurate measurements on the spices. I listed what I used in mine - Experiment with SMALL additions until you find a taste you like. Garlic is a good spice to start with, but beware basil... It gets strong in a hurry.
Ingredients:
1- Large can tomato sauce
1/4 cup finely diced white onion
1 tbsp. minced garlic
-Garlic powder
-Oregano
-Basil
-Black pepper
-Crushed red pepper
-Thyme
-Rosemary
Equipment:
1- 3qt sauce pan.
-Oven
-Mixing spoon
-Can opener
-Measuring/spice spoons
Directions:
1- In 3qt sauce pan, combine minced garlic, diced onion and tomato sauce. Bring to a low simmer over medium heat.
2- Season to taste. (This is the tricky part. It's all experience and personal taste. Just add spices in small increments and taste-test often.)
3- When you've got it tasting just right, keep a stir on it and let it simmer for a good 10-15 minutes, or until slightly thickened. (This will get all you-re spices re-hydrated, and allow everything to marry. It also makes for a more robust sauce if you use red onion and fresh spices, crushed/ground at home.)
This sauce also freezes well, reheats well on the stove, and seems to only get more flavorful the longer it sits.
