From the kitchens of
hozz comes this major platter of Nachos, Nachos in the extreme and full of colour and flavour. Imagine this presented on the middle of the dinner table with all the trimmings you want...what a lovely meal.
Quick, easy, ethnic! A pretty simple dish that's easy to make, not very heavy, and good for a crowd of people.
What you'll need:
1- Large bag white tortilla chips
1- Medium/Large tomato, coarsely diced
2lbs hamburger
1- medium white onion, diced
1- Bag plain lettuce, shredded or cut into small strips/pieces.
1 large/2 normal bags shredded cheese
1- container sour cream
1- packet taco seasoning mix
Optional:
-Re-fried beans
-Guacamole
-Salsa
-Diced green bell pepper
-Jalapenos/Habaneros/Other hot Peppers
Equipment:
-Large skillet
-Strainer/Colander
-9x13 baking dish
-oven
-oven mitts/trivets
-Spatula/serving spoon, etc.
Directions:
1- In large skillet, combine ground beef, onion And bell pepper.
2- Brown beef and add taco seasoning mix, following instructions on package.
3- Preheat oven to 350F/175C. Pour 9x13 full of tortilla chips, and place in over.
4- Finish browning and seasoning meat while chips get warm. Drain off excess grease with strainer.
5- Remove chips from oven. Place meat on top of chips in a even layer. Cover with a healthy layer of shredded cheese. Replace in oven for 5-7 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
6- Remove from oven. Spread contents of sour cream package in a even layer on top of cheese.
7- Top with a layer of shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and optionally diced onion and/or bell pepper. For presentation, sprinkle lightly with some leftover shredded cheese.
8- NOM.
If you have leftover chips, or if you just want to have it as well, serve with sides of Salsa, re-fried beans or guacamole for dipping. This also tastes well with other things in place of the sour cream. When I make this for parties, I usually make a "tri-color" version, topping it with 1/3 sour cream, 1/3 re-fried beans and 1/3 Guacamole. Not mixed, but just a third of the top covered in each one so it kinda looks like a Mexican flag or something.
Hope you enjoy this! Now dig in!
