A rendition of how I see Some of the different races of dwarf Fortress.
Animal People:
Savage folk that come in various shapes and sizes. everything from small rat men, to the large elephant men, they
are by far the most diverse and dynamic race. Mingling humanoid intellect with traits based on their animal half, they
can posses various abilities. From wings that grant flight to the numerous bird and bug men, to the claws and jaws of lion,
tiger, and bear men.
My encounters with them don't even begin to scratch the surface of their ways and culture, as I have only met with a mere handful compared to the hundreds of different types of animal people that can exist in a world.
Experiment:
Created by the twisted machinations of necromancers, experiments appear to be just as diverse and dynamic as animal people. appearing in various forms, all of which seem to be amalgamations of body parts mixed randomly together into abominations.
The only consistency I've come to see between different groups of Experiments, is they all appear to have dark ash grey skin
and not seem to need to eat, sleep or breath.
What is more interesting however is, despite their monstrous origins, and frightful appearances, they tend to be peaceful folk,
often living simple, humble lives with no evil ambitions or intent.
Gorlak:
Imagine if you will, you find yourself lost in the caverns, wandering alone in the deep dark tunnels of the world.
when something steps out of the darkness. At first you recoil, it's red eyes and large tusks are disconcerting to say the very
least. But then, it greets you with a friendly smile and hearty handshake, and before you know it, you are laughing and joking
with your new best friend, a gorlak.
Dwelling in the caverns, gorlaks are goodly folk that seem to love telling jokes and giving helpful advice.
From my few encounters with gorlaks they seem to be a perfect example of why you should not judge a book by it's cover,
because despite their somewhat fearsome appearance, gorlaks are good, honorable people, who can be the best kind of friend, especially if you find yourself lost, deep down underground.
Dwarf:
Dwarfs are Good hearty folk, who love to drink often and dig deep. Out of all the races they have the most effect on the world, for both good or Ill. Building mighty fortresses, and crafting wondrous artifacts when the mood takes them. Or digging too deep and unleashing literal hell upon the world.
Human:
As I know it, we humans come in two forms.
The first is the local, indigenous folk who live on the surface of the world. They make good allies and trade partners, so long as you treat them with respect, and their kingdoms are by far the best neighbors you can hope for.
The second are the outsiders, travelers who come from worlds beyond. They can appear suddenly without warning or explanation. They are almost always adventurers, occasionally settling down in some kingdom or village they may have become fond of.
At best they are good, honorable, and heroic, seeking to lend aid to the good people of the world, and fighting against evil. At worst they my try to become something as bad or worse than the evils in the world, carving out empires one kingdom at a time, or simply attacking everything in their path, in some mad rampage of violence.
-
For my part I am what some might consider 'the worst' or at least I try to be. As I seek dominion over this world... But despite
my ambition, certain... deficiencies, and drawbacks have hampered my quest for world domination.
Gremlin:
To some... Gremlins are small, irritating pests, who's love of pranks and opening every door, and pulling of very switch make them a potentially lethal pest.
-
To me they are the best kind of minions, a dark lord could ask for. Aggressive, Cheap, Charming, and best of all Loyal.
Only down side Is I tend to get attached to the lil goobers, which sets me on a murderous streak any time one of them
is killed by something.
Goblin:
Left to their own devices, goblins make for terrible neighbors. Attacking settlements that get too big, and kidnapping children to add to their own forces.
But at least they are not as bad as elves.
Elf:
When one thinks of the eldar, one might think of tall, elegant, and wise creatures, that are also perhaps a little arrogant at times.
The elves of this world are more than just a little arrogant, and have none of the other aforementioned traits.
Small, petulant, self-righteous, and extremely hypocritical, these elves are the very worst representation of the eldar I have
ever encountered.
That being said, I find they only become a problem on a collective level. On an individual level elves can sometimes surprise
you by not only being sometimes half decent, but on rare occasion being a badass worthy or respect.
(look up Cacame Awemedinade)
Kobold:
Cute lil goobers that can't speak the common tongue, who will sometimes try to be a nuance by trying to steal stuff.
But half the time are so ineffectual they just come off as endearing.

Well that's ironic, cause not a lot of people like Half-Elves cause they're essentially worse then Elves because how Elves are like "we're better then you lesser folks" but Half-Elves are like "we're only half of our kind, therefore we're more humbled and enjoyable then our self-centered full-bloods" which is equally worse by boasting about it
Sorry for the nerd rant xP

Heheheheh... Treetard... You also forgot how they ritualistically eat ANY humanoid, even their own, because lols aparently. But yes, Cacame is awesome.
Now let's hope you don't land in other lands, like the Autum Kingdom or The Long Night (Because Squamous's mods are awesome). Who know what you'd do there... Or what naughtyness you'd create.

Sadly there was a lot of data loss not long ago, though I am sure the mods will be reuploaded at some point (Most likely once also optimized for the Steam version of the game). There are many mods, including one that brings DINOSAURS and. One of my favorites I'd recommend if you have time: The Long Night (Think postapocalipse, cyber monstrosities, nanomachines/magic, automated 'dragons' and shit).
I hope ya lik 'em if ya try 'em :3
