As with most airborne canivores, Ha'aow used their clawed toes to snatch small mammals from the dense branches and foliage of the canopies. Thus, keeping one's talons in good condition was of the highest priority and it was one of life's simple pleasures for Ka'ahkai to drag her claws through the bark. It kept them sharp, cleaned them of any residual blood and gristle. The extra stretch in her back and shoulders as she pulled backwards felt quite nice as well. Though it did create very deep, obvious gouges that might mark out a favorite scratch spot to any watching predators...
