I'm going to hazard a guess, but now that he's no longer in proximity to the Dragon of Paradise, his pocketful of herb is no longer bottomless.
We've already seen Jat when he's slightly sober, and he was a bit of a nervous wreck. Like others have said, this ain't gonna be pretty, and it's definitely not gonna be fun.
But strangely enough, I think Hiker and Fol are going to help him get through it. Get through it, and bond.
Broken folk tend to come together that way. Broken folk tend to have leftover pieces, and sometimes, those pieces fit better on someone else than they do the original owner. Eventually, they're made whole again. They don't look or feel the same, but they're whole. And most importantly, they are connected, and have a shared story.
