Here is a pair of dividers I have made from some coil spring. I chose to use coil spring for the material, since it can be hardened.
Having hardened tips will make this a lot more wear resistant when scribing lines and circles onto steel.
The pair of dividers here are not my own design, but a pair I made from following the instructions of a video made by one of my favourite smiths on youtube DF- In the Shop.
