Rise of the Metal Hydra
So here I am, drawing an anime series character with funny hair and ridiculous.... sword - something, until recently, I never believed I would be doing. How did I end up like that?
A friend of mine had this crazy idea of me making posters for the next aniventure.... I don't know why I bit the bait, that's definitely not what I've been dreaming of, but anyway I did, I promised I'll do it, and when I make a promise, I try to keep it.
Now, I came up with this picture in mind, obviously emphasizing on the monster rather than on the protagonist, I wasn't quite happy about it.... but then it turned into real fun when I started drawing scales. Endless scales. I love all things reptilian. And all things metal, of course. Combine these two things, add a little weird fantasy and my pathological subconscious strive to make my life harder than I must - and there, a beautiful metal hydra is born.
So, I can't say I had much of an idea, but at least it was a good practice. There was even no title until just a few minutes prior to uploading it here, I did try to invent something, but there was only shit in my mind, like the first moment my brother saw that so-called sword, he spontaneously asked: "What is that snow shovel?" And that stuck in my mind. I thought I could leave it as a title.... I don't know why I changed my mind. This one just struck me. It's a little stupid, but at least epic.
Time for the technicals.
Reference: none. Though I had to study a few pictures of Gatsu so that I could draw him in a way fans would recognize him not only by the snow shovel.
Original size: 2500 x 4000 pixels, 300 dpi.
Done with Wacom Intuos 4, on Ps CS4 (I love this software).
Took a looooooooong time.
P.S. A friend of mine interpreted this quite funny:
[The Protagonist]: "Screw that, I'm going home."
I can't deny it looks like that. Perhaps I should have taken this for title....
