nods well a Mudkip is based off of the real deal. Some of the Pokemon are based on real creatures Pikachu is not just based on a mouse but the American Pika (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Pika)

They're way cooler then mudkip's, they has freaking limb regeneration, and some of their species can use their ribs as weapons.

Axolotls are cute, this portrayal is no exception, well done.

Axolotl did inspire the design of Wooper(pokemon) and a side character of Keroro Gunso.

Also known as Mexican Walking Fish. Not sure if you know anything about the Dune saga but do you have any idea why the Tlailaxu call their tanks axolotl tanks? It's never really explained and I have a hard time figuring out how one of these is involved to create a Goluh. Sorry if none of that made any sense. LOL

I heard that that is actually an evolved larval state, and if they are left outside water too long they age backwards in evolution?
I'm pretty sure I'm not explaining it right, I just heard it somewhere :B
