The current picture is of one of the limbs of that tree. It took out a powerline today.
I was very hopeful that the city would do something about the tree after this but no.
The city will not touch it even after it takes out power to several homes.
Their thoughts, cheaper to replace a powerline than cut down a tree.
And we're still nowhere near our goal.

In some parts of the country, this is fine. In others, you need the City's permission, there's permits to be filed and fees to be paid, and even then you're not free in whom gets to take the tree down, the City then decides whom and when if at all. In some cases, the removal even has to be documented by photo evidence provided by and through official sources (yet MORE fees to be paid there, too).
Not unless that tree is on a homeowner's property. then those people don't need city permission to remove the dead tree. although if I was that property owner. I would have the logs from the rest of the tree that was cut down. taken to the town or city hall and left outside the doors of every city official as a gift. Just so that way I can't be fined for giving them a gift vs them trying to say that I was illegally dumping the cut-down tree onto their property.
I'd actually forgotten about this journal in the intervening months. I'm not in disagreement, just more a case of be certain of things before acting so as to avoid issues. Now, as I live in New York City, I'd have to instead send a wood chip to every city official, as by the gods above I swear we have enough to populate a small city on their own... ^_^
It's fine and And you can do a lot of damage with wood chips. like you can put them in a mesh sack and place that sack in front of the HVAC intake so that the entire building is filled with the smell of wood chips.
But guessing how NYC politicians will react, I'm sure that some would want to have you charged with vandalism or trespassing. Although you could send them the bill for the services that you had to use to have the tree removed from your property. And if they try to fine you for cutting down a dead tree that they refuse to do themselves. you can simply add interest to that bill until they pay you back for the money that you spent out of your own pocket.

There has to be someone in authority you can complain to.. or if there doesn't seem to be, a local news station you can now create a story for that gets whatever lazy fucking politician to get off their ass and take care of this. It's literally downing power lines, that makes it a hazard and something the town, city, whatever, should take care of.
(Oh, and go to your neighbors and find out who was affected by this, and maybe you can all do something with the above together. While an individual's property is normally their issue, this goes beyond that, as, again, it is a threat to everybody, and I guarantee if you tried to do something yourself, then they'd suddenly care and fine or arrest you for some damned violation.)
Also, save as many videos and images as you can for evidence..

I would get permission from the homeowner which the tree is on to let you cut it down into 12" to 18" logs and then take those logs to the city official's doors and give them to them as a gift with a bill for the tree cutting services as well as for any of your lost frozen and cold goods that you might have in the fridge and freezer.
